Vibe Chimes

Where wind meets sound in a living, breathing world

Craft a wind chime soundscape that never repeats. Choose an environment, tune the wind, pick your materials, and let generative audio follow the weather.

How It Works

Three simple steps to your personal wind chime sanctuary

1

Choose Your Scene

Pick from six handcrafted environments: a misty mountain meadow, a sun-drenched porch, a serene zen garden, or let your local weather set the stage. Each scene shapes the wind, the light, and the mood.

2

Customize Your Chimes

Select from aluminum, bamboo, wood, glass, and shell. Adjust the number of tubes, tuning scale, striker weight, and sail size. Every parameter changes how your chimes respond to the wind.

3

Listen & Relax

Wind physics and generative audio create a soundscape that never repeats. Gusts build and fade, strikers swing and collide, tubes ring with natural overtones. Close your eyes and breathe.

Features

Built with real physics, real acoustics, and real attention to detail

Physics-Based Sound

Pendulum dynamics and striker collisions generate authentic chime tones. Each tube vibrates with inharmonic overtones, just like real metal, bamboo, and wood.

Six Environments

Mountain meadow, summer porch, zen garden, Pacific storm, coastal sunset, and clear night. Each features unique terrain, vegetation, lighting, and atmosphere.

Live Weather Mode

Connect to your local weather and let real wind speed, direction, and conditions drive the experience. Rain, fog, and clear skies all come to life in the 3D scene.

Real-Time Lighting

A day-night cycle syncs with your clock or lets you dial in any hour. Watch dawn break over the mountains or listen to chimes shimmer under a canopy of stars.

Deep Customization

Up to four chimes, five materials, multiple tuning scales, adjustable wind strength, direction, and gustiness. Your soundscape, your rules.

No Download Required

Runs entirely in your browser using Web Audio and WebGL. No plugins, no install, no account. Works on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

The Science of Sound

Why wind chimes calm the mind, and how we recreate it digitally

Why Wind Chimes Soothe

Wind chimes produce pentatonic melodies: scales with no dissonant intervals. The brain processes these harmonies as inherently pleasant and non-threatening, triggering a gentle relaxation response. Unlike music with a fixed tempo, wind chimes follow the rhythm of nature: unpredictable, unhurried, and free of expectation. The result is a soundscape that invites presence without demanding attention.

Real Acoustics, Digitally

Tubular wind chimes produce inharmonic overtones: the higher frequencies aren't neat multiples of the fundamental. Our audio engine synthesizes these bending-mode ratios (1x, 2.76x, 5.4x, 8.93x) in real time using the Web Audio API. Aluminum tubes ring for thirty seconds or more; bamboo fades in under a second. Each material has its own spectral fingerprint, decay curve, and resonant character, faithfully modeled from acoustic research.

Built for the Browser

Vibe Chimes combines Three.js for 3D rendering, the Web Audio API for real-time synthesis, and Simplex noise for organic wind simulation. Physics-driven pendulums swing the striker into tubes at natural intervals, generating sound events that are as authentic as they are unpredictable. No samples, no loops: every tone is synthesized fresh at the moment of impact.

Questions & answers

The quick version. More in the blog.

What is Vibe Chimes?

Vibe Chimes is a free, browser-based 3D wind chime simulator. It combines real-time physics, generative audio synthesis, and immersive 3D environments to create an ambient soundscape that never repeats.

Is it free, and do I need to download anything?

It is completely free and runs entirely in your web browser. There is no download, no install, and no account required. It works on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

How does it make sound? Are the chimes real recordings?

No recordings. Every tone is synthesized in real time with the Web Audio API, modeling the inharmonic overtones (1x, 2.76x, 5.4x, 8.93x ratios) and decay of real tubular chimes. Aluminum, bamboo, wood, glass, and shell each sound distinct.

Why are wind chimes so calming?

Wind chimes are usually tuned to pentatonic scales the brain reads as consonant, and their timing is driven by wind rather than a steady beat. That irregular, unhurried rhythm invites a relaxed, lightly-engaged state often called soft fascination.

Can it use my local weather?

Yes. The Local Weather scene pulls your real-time conditions (via Open-Meteo, no API key needed) so live wind speed, direction, and sky drive the chimes and the 3D environment.

Is it good for sleep, focus, or relaxation?

Many people use it as ambient background for focus, meditation, or winding down. It loops indefinitely and never repeats, so there is no jarring restart, and you can mute or tune it to taste.
